I have been an artist in my spare time for many years, using oils, acrylics and airbrush, and felt that I needed to try something different. For me, 3D rather than 2D format was the way to go and I fancied working with wood. Whilst I had never carved anything I have done a lot of building work and DIY. Having found the website, I joined the club in February 2017.
It was a challenge to change my thinking from ‘flat, paint what you see’, to working on something where every profile that you cut will also have depth and can be seen from all angles. With the help of some of the longstanding members, I have been able to create two carved pieces - so far! I like projects that are more abstract than conventional and have a collection of ideas waiting in the wings.
I love natural wood, the feel, the smell, the look of pure nature and having the opportunity to create something tangible as well is a real joy.
